Today, the Prime Minister will confirm that Scotland will continue to be at the forefront of measures to strengthen the UK’s long-term energy security.

During a visit to the North East of Scotland, the Prime Minister will emphasise the vital role that the region will play in enhancing and delivering on the UK Government‘s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 and enhancing long-term energy security for future generations.

The UK is leading international efforts by establishing ambitious net zero commitments, accelerating the transition to renewable energy, and reducing total greenhouse gas emissions by 32% since 2010, all while lowering energy costs and assisting households.

It is anticipated that the government and energy authorities of the UK will go further than in the past in proclaiming continued decisive action to:

  • Enhance the North Sea industry’s capacity to transition to Net Zero
  • Enhance the foundations of the UK’s future energy composition
  • And create the next generation of green employees that are highly skilled

In addition, the Prime Minister is expected to meet with key energy industry figures and companies at the forefront of delivering the UK’s energy requirements, as well as the next generation of highly skilled individuals working on the projects of the future.

The package will also ensure that Scotland remains a cornerstone of government plans for an energy-independent UK and demonstrate what can be accomplished due to the strength and scale of UK collective action in protecting the public from Putin’s disruption and weaponisation of global energy supplies.
